Despite the weight and size, the VW Touareg R 2020 gets a time close to that of supercars.
Times have changed and now the VW Touareg R 2020 no longer incorporates a powerful 5.0 V10 TDI turbodiesel engine, with 313 hp, but a plug-in hybrid system, the same that Porsche uses in the Cayenne with 462 hp.
As you can see, electrification does not mean a loss in power. Quite the contrary, it allows you to win cavalry without the consumption and emissions shooting up to prohibited registers.
And in practice? Just watch the attached video to see what this SUV is capable of considering it weights over two tons. Officially, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds and the guys from Automann-TV have obtained a practically similar time: 5.3 seconds.
To go from 0 to 200 km / h, the German SUV took 18.9 seconds, while from 100 to 200 km / h, it was a time of 12.8 seconds. Not bad at all for a vehicle of this type, don’t you think?
Considering the weight and that it was equipped with very wide tires, with 22-inch alloy wheels, these are really good records. Of course, the 2020 Volkswagen Touareg R can not cope with the brutal Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which with its supercharged 700 hp 6.2 V8 engine, accelerates from 0 to 100 in just 3.7 seconds.
It should be remembered that the German SUV uses a 3.0 V6 turbo gasoline engine with 340 hp, plus a 136 hp electric drive. As we explained before, this combination generates 462 CV of combined power and a maximum torque that reaches 700 Nm.
In the ecological mode setting, the Wolfsburg model gets 48 kilometers of electric autonomy and can travel at a maximum speed of 140 km / h (with the gasoline engine off), thanks to a lithium-ion battery with 14.1 kWh capacity.
This top-of-the-range version, will be launched before the end of the year, although at the moment there is no official price. However, almost certainly, it will be above 100,000 euros.
