While waiting for the RS 3, the Audi S3 sportback is the 310 hp option.
The range of the 2020 Audi A3 Sportback begins to spice up. While we are waiting to see if the new RS 3 Sportback exceeding the 421 hp of the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC + , the new Audi S3 Sportback and S3 Sedan 2021 have just been presented.
As part of its high pedigree, this version differs aesthetically from conventional one. Just look at the sportier-looking bumpers, the diamond-patterned grille, the black mirror caps, or the 18-inch (19-inch option) alloy wheels.
Of course, in some high-performance vehicles, several exhaust outlets (in particular, four) or a diffuser marking cannot be missing. Optionally, the headlights can be Matrix LEDs, with matrix lighting, which does not dazzle other road users, even if the main beams are active.
The Audi S3 Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the 2021 Audi S3 Sportback and S3 Sedan have gained 3.0 and 4.0 centimeters in length, respectively. In this way, they declare 4.34 and 4.50 meters. Likewise, they add another 3.0 extra centimeters in width. The wheelbase on both models is identical, at 2.64 meters.
This slight increase in exterior dimensions translates into greater interior space in width. As for the trunk, the five-door body offers between 325 and 1,145 liters, while that of the sedan variant reaches 370. These are lower figures compared to the standard variants (380 liters in the A3 Sportback and 425 in the A3 Sedan) .
Let’s talk mechanicals
But let’s get to the heart of the matter: the engine. Both models are powered by the turbocharged 2.0 TFSI petrol block, with four cylinders, which delivers 310 hp and 400 Nm. The only transmission available is the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic.
Also standard is the quattro all-wheel drive, which through a Haldex multi-disc clutch, distributes the mechanical force between both axles in a variable way. All this sum of components generates some fantastic performance: acceleration from 0 to 100 in 4.8 seconds and top speed, electronically limited, of 250 km / h, in both models.
The Audi S3 Sportback and S3 Sedan 2021 optionally have an adaptive suspension, with a greater difference in setting between the different programs, according to the German brand, while the standard one is sporty, as it reduces the height by 15 millimeters body free compared to the ‘normal’ A3.
We must also mention the multi-link rear axle and the Progressive Steering, with variable transmission, as key elements when it comes to achieving a unique dynamism. But these cars also have to brake very well, hence four ventilated discs have been installed, with black calipers (red, if you pay that option).
If we move to the interior, we observe as more exclusive points the new sports seats with contrasting stitching, as well as the decorative inlays in aluminum or carbon, and the slightly flattened steering wheel at the bottom.
The Audi S3 Sportback and S3 Sedan 2021 are no strangers to the technological atmosphere that every novelty should emanate. Thus, two screens appear, one for the instrumentation, which measures 12.5 inches, plus the central 10.1-inch monitor.
We finish with the commercial section. Sales of both models will begin this August, while the first units will reach dealerships in October. In our European market, the Audi S3 Sportback 2021 costs 53,900 euros, while the S3 Sedan represents an outlay of 54,800 euros. Yes, they are less than a thousand euros of difference between the two. Which one would you choose? This will be a difficult choice, right?
